Project Goal:
Our project aims at establishing a dialogue between socially and economically marginalized youth from different cultural backgrounds through the use of media and technology during a period of six months.

Start Date: March 2011
End Date: August 2011
Celebration: August 12, 2011 in East River Park, New York City and La Corrida, Casablanca

Locations:
Casablanca: Multimedia Room in Lycee Hassan II
New York City: Beacon Community Center at IS 219 in the Bronx

Description:
Students from Casablanca enrolled in both Lycee Hassan II and Lycee Oued Eddahab and students from New York City enrolled in  FDA III in the Bronx receive workshops on Film Theory, Media Literacy, Screen Writing, Video Production, and Editing. They are also provided with flip cameras and they have for assignment to shoot short videos simultaneously on given topics. They display their work in their community and then share it with their peers from the other location. The students are given four different topics during four months. Throughout the project, the students have an online forum (using skype) where they discuss their work and social issues faced by both groups.

Skills:
Through the film exchange program, youth from both locations have the opportunity to strengthen their foreign language, communication, and video production skills. These skills allow them to enhance their professional development and their positive transition to adulthood.

Staff:
Visual Arts college students, filmmakers, and new media artists conduct the activities in Casablanca. A full time program coordinator, Loubna Rais oversees the workshops and the staff.
Zayn Abaakil conducts the workshops for the students in New York City.
